Alter Bridge hit the road to finish up their Last Hero tour with All That Remains. The Ritz Raleigh was packed, from front to back with metal heads ready to witness a show of epic proportions.
The nearly sold-out Ritz was buzzing with anticipation when Alter Bridge[★★★★★] walked out on the stage. The intense cheers from the floor and balcony proved that they were clearly there to see this powerhouse quartet.
Front man and guitarist Myles Kennedy, guitarist Mark Tremonti, and bassist Brian Marshall make their presence known as they take turns working the front edge of the stage. Their epic opener “Come to Life” and follow up “Farther than the Sun” fuse all of the heavy riffs and commercial sing along aspects that make this band special.
Now supporting the band’s fifth studio album, The Last Hero, this tour is an amalgamation of past and present resolved into a cohesive outlet that showcases the sum of its parts. They have truly come into their own with songs like “Crows on a Wire” and “The Other Side.”
With each passing song, the band continues to surprise and out do themselves. Kennedy is truly an underrated powerhouse. His guitar skills are a great pairing for Tremonti, but his quality of vocals is impressive and unwavering. Tremonti’s vocal appearance on “Waters Rising,” also shows that this band isn’t a one trick pony.
The band does a great job of presenting a nice offering of everything that can within the confines of the night. As the night comes to a close, they revisit some of the earlier material like “Open Your Eyes” and “Metalingus” before finishing up with their encore of “Show Me a Leader” and “Rise Today.”
Alter Bridge delivers a solid rock show with a little something for everyone. Whether you want to be pummeled by driving riffs, wowed by powerful vocals, or floored by flashy stage lights, Alter Bridge engage their audience on all levels ensuring that they get their money’s worth.
